Fishing is carried out on the rivers and brooks of water basins of the Angara and the Lena. These are not wide (10-30 m.) watercourses with a very clean water and rather rapid current.
Lynx is a large wood cat. The length of its body is 85-105 sm., the average weight is 12-16 kg. Sometimes one can meet specimens with the weight up to 30 kg. The period of hunting: from November, 1 to December, 31.
Roe is a slim animal with short body. The legs are tall, the head is small, and the tail is short. The coloring is plain; in summer – it is bright-red and in winter – brown-grey.
Wood-grouse is the largest game-bird in Siberian taiga. Male wood-grouse have the weight up to 4-5 kg. (seldom – 5,5 kg.) and are really beautiful. The period of hunting: from April, 25 to May, 10.
In Irkutsk region lives the east-Siberian subspecies of an elk which is considered the largest one. The length of the body is up to 300 sm., the height is 235 sm., and the weight is up to 750 kg. Only male elks have antlers. The antlers have different shapes and the span reaches almost 2 meters; and the weight of the antlers is up to 35 kg. Red deeris a large, slim and powerful animal. There are two sorts of red deer – maral (Siberian deer) and Manchurian deer in Eastern Siberia. They differ from each other in the size, the structure of antlers and the coloring.
It is a slim predator with strong slanting back, brawny neck and heavy head with large forehead. The length of the body is about 105-160 sm., the height is 80-100 sm., the weight is 32-80 kg. The period of hunting: from November, 1 to March, 31.
Wild boar is a thickset animal with a large elongated head. The length of the body is 130-175 sm., the height is up to 100 sm., sometimes a little more. The weight is 60-150 kg. (sometimes up to 275 kg.). The maximum length of a skull is 37-40 sm. The period of hunting: December 1-31.
Musk-deer is called the smallest deer in Siberia by the hunters. The length of its body is within 85-100 sm., the height is 60-65 sm., the maximum weight is no more than 15-17 kg. It has no antlers but grown-up male musk-deers have long (up to 10 sm.) tusks, which play the role of the tournament weapon. The period of hunting: from October, 15 to December, 31.
Bear is the largest surface predator. The weight of some specimen is 480 kg. The length of the body is up to 2,55 m.; the height is up to 1, 35 m. Usually the weight of the grown-up bears is from 120 to 250 kg. The hunting is carried out in winter period: from November, 1 to March, 1. The period of spring hunting: from April, 25 to June, 1. The period of spring hunting at the Baikal: from May, 25 to June, 5. The coloring of bears varies from dark-brown, almost black to light-grey. This animal prefers old mixed forests with windfall, ashes and bogs.
